Satin stitch is probably my favourite of all embroidery stitches because it produces such a rich result, and filling in a design with satin stitch is like painting with thread.
This summer I designed a colourful Mexican-inspired floral motif and looked around for a suitable white cotton or linen blouse to embellish. Finding nothing suitable in the shops, I decided to make one using a New Look pattern and it turned out remarkably well.
The finished blouse appeared in the August issue of Sew magazine and the design is available to download from their website: just click on the link below the picture. (You have to register to access downloads – but it's free!)
Of course, you don't have to use it on a blouse: it would make a lovely cushion, or the motif could be repeated along the edge of a bed sheet or the hem of a curtain.
