Nicky Sanderson (check out her artEscapes website; there's a link on this page) was artist in residence at Catterline for the month of June and invited me to spend some time there with her. Catterline is a clifftop settlement of a couple of dozen houses, a school and a pub; we stayed at The Watchie, an artist's studio once used by Joan Eardley who produced so many evocative drawings and paintings of the location and its changeable weather. Seaside locations provide wonderful inspiration and being able to set up an easel in the garden and look across the bay at the cliffs jutting out into the sea and the wave-splashed rocks was very exciting indeed.
