My New Year's resolution was to make contact with old friends. Losing touch is, I suppose, inevitable sometimes and I am aware that I'm not very good at maintaining current friendships let alone those that have lapsed. A friend and neighbour died a couple of weeks ago and I decided to get in touch with my friend Gemma, in Ireland, who used to live next door. I dialled her number and she picked up the phone and we started talking; and I thought to myself, 'If it's this easy why haven't I done it before?'
The resolution was made in January; February is nearly over and I have written very few letters so far but I know I shall. So, if you are the recipient of one of these letters and you have found your way to this page, you should know that I have deliberately chosen the picture above, of me and my two daughters, because of the soft-focus, so I can disguise the effects of the passing years.
