After a really inspiring watercolour painting workshop at the Battery, Seasalter, with Chloe Cheese, back in July, follwed by attendance at six life drawing classes at the St Ives School of Painting later the same month, I have signed up to a life drawing class at my local adult education institute, Greenwich Community College, for three hours every Monday evening.
So far, I have been to three sessions and produced lots of work. I like to work on A2 paper, with fairly bold washes of watercolour, using a big, soft brush. I block in the main parts of the figure, then put in some shading and contours, then add outlines and details with a water-soluble crayon. The 10-minute poses are my favourite, as I can work quickly and spontaneously, producing a very finished result in a short space of time.
The sketch on the right is one of the figure drawings I did in St Ives in the summer, while the one on the left is a quick sketch of my beautiful daughter, Edith, which I did on the train coming back to London from Hastings.
