Small Christmas Tree Decoration

Small Christmas Tree Decoration

With oddments of yarn and a sprinkling of sequins, you can conjure up a bit of festive frivolity. These tiny trees take very little time to make and would look good hung along the edge of a mantelpiece. Why not get the rest of the family to join in and share the creativity? The trees pictured were made using Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk DK.
If this yarn is not available, use any standard double-knitting yarn.

Tension: 24sts and 42 rows to 10cm, measured over garter stitch using 3.25mm needles

Making up
Cut triangles of felt or interfacing slightly smaller than the knitted pieces. Place two knitted pieces together, right sides out, with a piece of felt sandwiched in between. Oversew edges using matching yarn. With 2.5mm crochet hook and long tail of yarn, work 20 ch; fasten off. Thread remaining tail of yarn through base of 20 ch, to form a loop for hanging. With 2.5mm hook and red yarn, work 1 dc into each of 5 centre stitches at base of tree; work 3 further rows of 5 dc and fasten off. Using sewing thread to match tree, stitch sequins, buttons and beads in place, to decorate the tree on both sides.
