From Friday 25th September, I shall be teaching a 5-week course in Kantha Embroidery at The Learning Centre, Brampton Road, Bexleyheath.
Kantha Embroidery comes from Bangladesh, where it is used to stitch together several layers of old sari fabrics, to make cushions and quilts. It uses the simplest of all stitches: the running stitch. I will show students how to use kantha-inspired patterns to create unique projects using traditional motifs or their own designs, and demonstrate how to combine fabrics using layering, patching and piecing techniques. Students will need to bring along some fabrics and threads to be transformed into a cushion, quilt or throw, and I will also have a selection of linen and cotton fabrics available for making practice pieces.
