Baby Bunting

Baby Bunting

This colourful bunting is too good to save for summer fetes and parties. Use it to brighten up the nursery or playroom all year round. The sweet sherbet colours are perfect for a baby’s room. The bunting shown was made in Patons DK cotton but you could use leftover oddments of any double knitting cotton yarn in your choice of colours instead.

You will need
Crochet hook, size 4mm
Patons 100% DK cotton in shades 2703 pale green, 2726 turquoise, 2699 primrose, 2723 coral, 2719 bright pink, 2706 lilac and 2692 white
12 small bells

Note: When you begin making each triangle, leave an end of yarn about 6-8cm in length, which can be used to tie on a bell.

Row 1: with 4mm hook and first colour, 2ch, 3dc in 2nd ch from hook.
Row 2 and all even-numbered rows: 2ch, then 1dc in each st to end.
Row 3: (2ch, 1dc) in 1st st; 1dc in next st, 2dc in last st.
Row 5: (2ch, 1dc) in 1st st; 1dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in last st.
Row 7: (2ch, 1dc) in 1st st; 1dc in next 5 st, 2dc in last st.
Row 9: (2ch, 1dc) in 1st st; 1dc in next 7 sts, 2dc in last st.
Row 11: (2ch, 1dc) in 1st st; 1dc in next 9 sts, 2dc in last st.
Row 13: (2ch, 1dc) in 1st st; 1dc in next 11 sts, 2dc in last st.
Row 15: (2ch, 1dc) in 1st st; 1dc in next 13 sts, 2dc in last st.
Row 17: (2ch, 1dc) in 1st st; 1dc in next 15 sts, 2dc in last st.
Work 1 more row without increases then fasten off yarn.

Make 2 triangles in each colour, in this way, until you have 12 triangles (or the number of triangles to make up the desired length of bunting).
Using white yarn and 4mm hook, make 80ch, then work 1 sl st in each of 19dc across top of 1st triangle; * 12ch, then work across top of next triangle in the same way; repeat from * until you have used all the triangles; then work 80ch and turn.
Next row: 2ch, 1dc in next st and every st to end. Fasten off.
